From schoolmates to soul mates
Kevonnie and Giovanni grew up in Jamaica and met in high school. Life would take them in different directions when Kevonnie moved abroad for university. As fate would have it, a year later Giovanni moved to Vancouver, and reached out to Kevonnie who was studying at the University of British Columbia. The schoolmates reconnected at a church camp called Camp Hope in BC, and the sparks truly began to fly.
After a year of reconnecting and growing close as friends, the bond became undeniable. "Over time, our phone calls grew longer, and we couldn’t ignore how deeply we connected. Our shared experiences, conversations, and moments at campus events brought us closer".
So when did they realize they were meant to be? Giovanni explains, "There wasn’t a single moment; it was a gradual realization. From reconnecting at Camp Hope to sharing experiences in Vancouver, we built something meaningful, realizing we were perfect partners for life".
The Proposal
Giovanni surprised Kevonnie on her 27th birthday with the help of her friends. He organized a party, gathered heartfelt video messages from loved ones, and gave a beautiful speech before proposing in a private, intimate setting. "It was a 10/10 moment, captured on video for lifelong memories".
Their first ceremony was an intimate gathering in Vancouver, with close friends and a pastor. The couple then set out to plan a family-focused 'Wedding Back Home' in Kingston.
A Wedding in the Heart of Kingston
The vibrant city was the perfect backdrop for their colourful celebration that included eye-catching floral arrangements, a lively dance party, and a dapper custom suit for the groom.
"It reflected our personalities—fun, exciting, and full of joy. Games, music, dancing, and love-filled energy made it unforgettable".
The Bridal party got ready at the Jamaica Pegasus in the heart of Kingston's bustling business district. The Bride and her bridesmaids enjoyed great city views as they had their hair and makeup done by Endorse Ur Beauty @endorseurbeauty and the talented Sue Gregg @suethemakeupgirl. The hotel's gardens were a serene oasis and the perfect spot for the couple's first look. The moment was expertly captured by wedding photographer, @dacxweddings.
Before the ceremony, the bridal party headed to Devon House for photos. The gorgeous 18th century architecture of the mansion, built by Jamaica's first black millionaire, and its lawns were a stunning backdrop for photographs the couple will cherish for a lifetime.
