It's no secret that Jamaica is the culinary capital of the Caribbean. Whether you're in town for the thrilling events of the Kingston Season of Excitement — from the electrifying ISSA Champs and Grand Slam Track, to the vibrant celebrations of Carnival in Jamaica — there's no better time to explore the culinary delights that make this city a food lover's paradise.

Simone Michelle is a designer, content creator, and foodie based in Kingston. In this guide, she’ll take you on a tasty journey through Kingston, highlighting the best spots to eat, drink, and indulge in local flavors while you experience the heart of Jamaica’s cultural and sporting scene. Let’s dig in!

  1. Cafe Blue, Irish Town

I love this for its out of town feel, it's quiet, outside of the hustle and bustle of the city, but not too far for a day trip. It's relaxing, peaceful, quiet, with good food, world renowned Blue Mountain coffee and views - the perfect way to escape when my schedule is tight.

2. Kamilah’s Kitchen at Skyline Levels

Find the first location of this soulful eatery in the hills above Kingston. On Sunday evenings also stop in to Dub Club, which is held closeby, for music and vibes.

This is the spot for incredibleeeee vegan food with a view. It's a very authentic experience and you can stay all day and enjoy the views of the city into the night. Kamila's Kitchen and Skyline Levels is a family owned business and has an excellent feel of community and family. Of course, live music is always the perfect cherry on top!

3. Fish and Festival at Hellshire Beach

There is NOTHING like escoveitch fish and fry bammy. Honorable mention goes to the Garlic Fried Lobster. To the west of the city center, it's worth the 30 minute drive. If you're Jamaican, you know it feels very nostalgic since you may have come here as a child.

It's so relaxing to eat by the sea as you hear the waves crashing on the rocks and, of course,  music is always playing, enhancing the vibes.

4. Kingston City Artwalk Downtown

Kingston Creative is really showcasing our artistic talents. It's beautiful to see the murals mixed in with the older buildings, kinda gives an old world feel and transports you to another time almost. The artwalk is something fun to do before you eat at either Moby Dick or Gloria's downtown. It's also a family friendly activity!

Visit Kingston Creative's website to book a tour and don't miss the monthly Artwalk Festival, held on the last Sunday of each month. It's an open-air public art festival with a new theme each month showcasing the exciting and unexpected elements of Jamaica's vibrant culture.

5. Jamaica Food and Drink Kitchen Experience

This is one of my MOST FAVOURITE things to do in Kingston, if not, actual favourite. MUST DO. The Jamaica Food and Drink Kitchen is a FUN and wholesome experience where you can participate in an immersive cooking and dining session. Learn to make treaditional Jamaican dishes or international food like ravioli or sushi, throw in a mixology session or swing by for their games night events on the deck on a Friday night.  I recommend this to all my friends.

6. Bob Marley Beach

A beautiful black sand beach that's a short drive away if you're staying in Kingston. You can always be sure of good food and music with insane views of the hills rolling down into the sea.
