Jamaica has introduced measures to manage the risks associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. All travellers must obtain a Travel Authorization prior to departure and to adhere to safety protocols while in Jamaica. Everything you need to know about travelling to Jamaica can be found below:

Vacationers Staying in Hotels, Villas or Guesthouses

 

Before you go

  1. Plan your trip
  2. Get your Travel Authorization here at visitjamaica.com
    • What is the Travel Authorization? The Travel Authorization is a requirement of the Government of Jamaica issued to all persons intending to travel to the island.  An approved Travel Authorization is issued after satisfactory completion of a health risk assessment.
    • What information do I need for a Travel Authorization? A one-time password will be sent to your email address which will allow you to register on the website. You will need your passport information along with the name/address of your booked accommodation  in Jamaica. Additionally, you will need to respond to a few questions about possible exposure to COVID-19.
    • When can I apply for it? Three days before arrival, you can apply. The Jamaican health regulations require that the Travel Authorization is issued a maximum of 72 hours before arrival in Jamaica. A response will be generated within 10 minutes of submission of the application.
  3. Print or save your Travel Authorization. Take it with you to the airport as you will need it along with your passport to check-in and board your flight.
    • Can I board without it? No. You must have a valid Travel Authorization that matches the information in your passport.
    • Do all travellers need one? Yes. Every passenger, regardless of age, must have a valid Travel Authorization to be able to board a flight to Jamaica. 

 

On arrival in Jamaica

  1. Observe all the sanitization, physical distancing and mask wearing protocols.
  2. Proceed to immigration for border control processing.
  3. Proceed to baggage claim to collect your luggage.
  4. Proceed to customs for clearance of your luggage.
  5. Prepare to be tested at the airport.
    • Is everyone tested? All travellers from areas where there is high community transmission of the virus will be tested.
    • What is the process for the test?  You will be escorted to a public health officer who will conduct a short risk assessment.  A decision to conduct a COVID-19 PCR test will be based on the results of the risk assessment.
  6. If selected for testing, you will be directed to your COVID-19 PCR test, administered by a health professional.
  7. Use certified transportation providers to get to your COVID-19 compliant accommodation.


Special Notes:

  • What kind of test is used? The test will be a PCR test and a sample will be taken by oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabbing.
  • How soon will I get the results? Test results will be made available within 48 hours. All persons tested for COVID-19 will be quarantined at their declared accommodation until test results are available.
  • What happens if I am showing signs of illness at the airport? If showing obvious signs of illness on arrival, you may be removed from regular processing and be quarantined or isolated at your hotel or at a government facility as determined by the health officers.

 

While you are there

  1. Continue to observe all the sanitization, physical distancing and mask wearing protocols.
  2. For up to 48 hours, you will be placed in quarantine until you receive the results of the COVID-19 test. Your movements and interactions will be limited during this period.
    • What if the result is positive? If the result of your test is positive, you will be placed in isolation either at the hotel/resort or in a government facility as determined by the health authorities.
    • What if the result is negative? If the result of your test is negative, you will end quarantine and be able to move freely within the Resilient Corridor while observing all sanitization, social distancing and mask wearing protocols.
  3.  You are required to use only COVID-19 protocol certified transportation operators when moving within the Resilient Corridor


Special Notes

  • What is the Resilient Corridor? The Resilient Corridor is a special zone in which tourism service delivery operators have been trained and certified for adherence to COVID-19 protocols. Visitors are required to stay within the Resilient Corridor.
  • Do I have to stay within this Corridor even with a negative result? All vacationers staying at hotels, villas or guesthouses are required to stay within the Corridor at all times.
  • What will happen if I travel outside the Corridor? If at any time the accommodation medical officer deems it necessary, you may be placed in quarantine and be instructed to take a COVID-19 test.

Explanation of Terms

Quarantine – Persons under quarantine are not permitted to leave the location, except with the permission of the health authorities. The quarantine location may be your hotel or a government facility, as determined by the health authorities. 

Isolation – Persons in isolation are separated from other persons.  They may be isolated at the hotel or in a government facility, as determined by the health authorities. Persons in isolation have either tested positive for COVID-19 or are suspected to be positive. 

Monitoring during Quarantine or Isolation - Persons who are quarantined or placed in isolation at their hotel or villa will be monitored electronically and by the health authorities to ensure that they do not leave their designated quarantine or isolation location.

Stay in Zone – This measure applies only to visitors who are staying in the COVID-19 Resilient Corridor designated for tourism purposes. Under this measure, persons are required to remain within the Corridor for the duration of their stay.

  • Forget to bring your mask – you must wear a mask in all common areas.
  • Get too close – practice physical distancing of 6 ft.
  • Shake hands – use touchless greetings
  • Forget to use your mobile device for check-in, tickets and dining where available.

    • Why do I need the app? In order to monitor and trace any spread of the virus, the health authorities must be able to track the movement of persons visiting the island. All persons staying outside the Resilient Corridor are required to use the Jamcovid19 app so the health authorities can manage movement. Installing it before your travel will save on airport processing time.

 
On arrival in Jamaica

  1. Observe all the sanitization, physical distancing and mask wearing protocols.
  2. Proceed to immigration for border control processing.
  3. Proceed to baggage claim to collect your luggage.
  4. Proceed to customs for clearance of your luggage.
  5. You will be directed to the Jamcovid 19 processing station for registration and app set up.
  6. Prepare to be tested at the airport
    • Is everyone tested? All travellers from areas where there is high community transmission of the virus will be tested.
    • What is the process for the test?  You will be escorted to a public health officer who will conduct a short risk assessment.  A decision to conduct a COVID-19 PCR test will be based on the result of the risk assessment.
  7. If selected for testing, you will be directed to your COVID-19 PCR test, which will be administered by a health professional.
  8. Exit the airport and proceed to your declared accommodations.

While you are there

  2. You will be placed in quarantine for 14 days at your intended address during which time your movements and interaction with others will be limited. This is applicable even if your test result is negative.  You will need to use the Jamcovid19 app for scheduled location check-ins throughout the quarantine period.
    • What if the test result is positive? If the result of your test is positive, you will be placed in isolation either at your intended address or in a government facility, as determined by the health authorities.

 

Special Notes

  • What can I do during quarantine? Under quarantine, your movement will be restricted for at least 14 days.  During that time, you will be able to leave your residence once per day to attend to the necessities of life, for example to get food supplies or to go to the pharmacy.
  • What if I want to attend a family gathering? You are required to complete the 14 days of quarantine before attending any event or gathering, including weddings and funerals.

You will be required to use the Jamcovid 1919 app for scheduled location check-ins throughout this period. Receipt of your test results will end this initial quarantine.
    • What if the result is positive? If the result of your test is positive, you will be placed in isolation either at your intended address or in a government facility as determined by the health authorities.
    • What if the result is negative? If the result of your test is negative, you will “Stay in Place” at your intended address for another 12 days.  You will be able to leave your residence for business meetings.

They are not allowed to meet with persons aged 65 and over, to take public transportation or to attend any meeting, event or gathering of more than 10 persons.

For July 10, 2020 and later arrivals, all travelers from New York, Florida, Arizona and Texas in the USA will be required to upload a negative Covid-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test result. The date of the test must be within 10 days of the arrival date in order to obtain a Travel Authorization.
