Reggae Music In Mainstream Music
“Likkle but wi tallawah” (Translation: we’re a small island yet so many great things are produced here!), is one phrase that perfectly describes Jamaica and the impact it has had on the World. Home to the fastest man in the World, delicious jerk cuisine and the best coffee in the World, our influence knows no bounds and Reggae Music is another example of this achievement.
For Reggae Month this year, we highlight our far-reaching influence and the precious gift we’ve given to the World: Reggae Music in all its forms, which include Ragga, Reggaeton and Dancehall. Some of the World’s biggest Pop, Hip Hop and R & B artistes have all sampled its distinct melodies and tune to produce Chart-topping, hits after hits. Even Mega companies have taken advantage of its lovable, now universal sound in their marketing strategies.
Oh, did we mention that Reggae Music is now listed as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage? A global cultural treasure… Reggae. Did. That! Yet without this badge of honor, we would still be skanking and rocking away to its beat and rhythm.
