Run in Paradise
The mostly flat course starts and ends at the immaculate Long Bay Beach, looping into the town of Negril and back, meandering along the magnificent coastline. The town comes alive early Sunday morning as the streets are lined with keen supporters and volunteers cheering on participants, providing rehydration, and offering lots of good vibes. Weather is usually in the low 70s F at that time, a lovely temperature for the start of the race. Reggae music can be heard throughout the run as music is strategically placed at each mile, helping you to keep the irie beat throughout your race.
Running family? Bring the kids! The 10K invites runners as young as 10 years old while the half-marathon permits those 14 and older. The race is certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations and all finishers receive the coveted Reggae Marathon bling. The males and female marathon winners will take home the Bob Marley and Rita Marley trophies, designed by one of Jamaica’s finest sculptors, Basil Watson.
A highlight of the weekend is the pre-race bash dubbed “The World’s Best Pasta Party” where runners are feted while dining on a scrumptious array of pre-race fuel. Not to be outdone, the finish line event features live acts and a cool-down party at the beach—a splendid way to end your race at one of Jamaica’s finest beaches, splashing around in the calm, crystal clear sea.
Come for the Medal, Stay for the Vibe
Registration for the race begins on the Friday before which gives you ample time to visit some of Negril’s famous attractions. Once a sleepy fishing village, the Negril coastline is now dotted with glass-bottom boats and party catamarans that will take you out for a snorkel or a sunset cruise. Take a leisurely ride on a bamboo raft up the Negril River or perhaps seek out the nearby Blue Hole Mineral Springs to soothe muscles before your race. You’ll find lots more sensational things to do in Negril to help make your trip even more memorable.
You may want to stay right on the Negril main road to catch the complimentary shuttle to the start line on race day. Here, you’ll find the most charming places to stay lining Seven Mile Beach. You’ll be spellbound by wondrous boutique hotels, luxurious resorts, and familial cottages all sharing the pristine shores.
