This annual jubilee, held on the grounds of the Seville Heritage Park in St. Ann, is a major national celebration organised by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT), in honour of our African ancestors and their contribution towards the free society that Jamaicans now enjoy.

Activities typically begin at 8:00 p.m. on the eve of Emancipation (July 31) and end at dawn on August 1. Thousands of patrons flock to the event each year to soak up the usual feast of traditional drumming, music, dance, fashion and foods that Jamaicans have come to know and love over the last 17 years. The reenactment of the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation happens at midnight, along with a special ceremonial tribute to the ancestors.
