The Digicel 5K Run for Special Needs gets underway on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.. This event will benefit Jamaica’s Special Needs community as thousands of extraordinary Jamaicans will take to the streets to race through Downtown Kingston.
In 2017, more than 10,000 entrants supported the event to raise funds, which went towards 5 special needs institutions to make necessary infrastructural and developmental upgrades, provide scholarships for needy special needs students, and facilitate specialized training for teachers and caregivers.
The organizations to benefit from this year's proceeds are the Jamaica Association on Intellectual Disabilities, Early Stimulation Plus, Community Based Rehabilitation Jamaica, Jamaica Autism Support Association, Jamaica Society for the Blind, Jamaica Down's Syndrome Foundation and Promise Learning Centre.
Several exciting Fun Zones are included on the route and the trademark post-event concert make the event one of the most entertaining 5Ks on the island.
