The biennial Calabash Literary Festival has returned to the Jamaican events calendar. Titled "For Word", the Caribbean's largest literary festival is scheduled for May 26 - 28, 2023 on Jamaica's South Coast.
Treasure Beach is transformed as the renowned Calabash Literary Festival takes over Jake's rustic island outpost. Readings, interviews and open-mic sessions start each morning and wind-down as the sun sets. Thousands from around the island come to see literary talents as diverse as Junot Diaz, Zadie Smith, Chigozie Obioma, Michael Ondaatje, Wole Soyinka, Billy Collins, Tishani Doshi, Edwidge Danticat, Robert Pinsky and Eleanor Catton. There are native sons, like Booker Prize winner, Marlon James and, beloved returnees, like Paul Holdengraber, who regularly interviews festival headliners.
The Calabash Literary Festival is open to the public at no cost. Festival goers will have a unique opportunity to celebrate Jamaica and the excellence of literary works. Visitors can expect inspiring, entertaining and thought-provoking prose and poetry from new and established writers, in addition to live music. Over 30 authors and musicians are expected to perform at the event.
Jake’s Resort in Treasure Beach is the home base for the Calabash Literary Festival.
