Description
Contemporary Art features the paintings, drawings, ceramics, sculpture and textiles of 20 Jamaican artists. The works in the exhibition reflect the mixed culture of the Caribbean island and western artistic influences, such as expressionism and minimalism. At the same time, the artists deal with issues of slavery, immigration and the history of their country, a former British plantation colony.

Did you know?

University Chapel: The University Chapel at the University of the West Indies was originally a sugar warehouse? The warehouse was once a part of Gales Valley Estate in Trelawny. The building was dismantled stone by stone and removed to Mona where it was rebuilt exactly as it was at the estate.
