Description
Firefly Beach Cottages await you on the beachfront in Negril. If you wish for a cottage or penthouse suite overlooking the beach and ocean; if you want to relax in a garden setting with the colourful hummingbirds, or in a Jacuzzi under the stars, or on your veranda, this may be your dream. We have just 18 units, each one unique. From a cozy cottage on the sand, a romantic alpine chalet for 2, penthouse suites for 2, 3 or 4 to studios for singles or up to 6 or 8 persons, we have a variety of attractive (some say beautiful) buildings for your enjoyment. The ambiance which brings back many of our guests each year cannot be found at the large resorts; the individual care provided by our admin. and housekeeping staff is always maintained. A tranquil drinks and snacks bar on the beach is open from breakfast to after sunset. Our beach provides both sun and shade from trees; you may tan all over if you wish. Just a short walk along the beach will bring you to many atmospheric bars and restaurants; you may wish to sample several during your stay. Musical entertainment is also within walking distance on the beach, not forgetting our free weekly Caribbean beach party for our guests. The local night club and disco is a ten minutes walk on the road. Each of our rooms has air-conditioning &/or ceiling fan, veranda, kitchenette, bathroom and 1 or 2 bedrooms. In the studios, the kitchenettes are within the living/sleeping section. The kitchenettes are fully equipped, the penthouse suites having also microwave ovens, coffee percolators and toasters. Our garden view rooms are just short walk through the colourful garden, from 10 to 60 seconds, to the beachfront. We provide internet services from the office. We have no permanent phones in the rooms; cell phones, with world-wide access, are available to those who wish to have them.

History
Jamaican Audrey and Yorkshireman David Sykes met in the 1960s in England. In the 1970ss they were living in Jamaica and selected what is now Firefly as their piece of paradise, the land being what they considered the best beach site in Jamaica. In 1980 they built their cottage, Firefly Cottage, (now the ‘Alpine Chalet’ as Firefly Cottages includes all 18 units) and rented it our when they were in Kingston. It became so popular, (and the land was too big for just this cottage) that they built other units over the years and David eventually gave up his Kingston job. The Sykes’s now use a different apartment which can accommodate other family members, so the Alpine Chalet remains one of the most wanted cottages for guests. It is one of comparatively few stand-alone cottages on Negril beach today. The cozy cottage was finished about 1991 and the penthouse suites were constructed in 1995; these beachfront units are also much sought after. The Jacuzzi arrived in 1995, whilst the mini-gym has been here for over 20 years. Regular guests (some have been coming each year from the 80s) will often insist on "their" room, and can get upset if someone has booked it before them.
